The Caveman's Wheel / Dial-Up Internet…

BLEEEEPP BLOOOPPP BALUBALUBALU EEHHHAAA

Dial-up. What more can I say? Trying my best to keep in contact with everyone… Trying to look at photos, update-with the lack of photos. Nearly pulling my hair out in patches here.

You may have noticed in my 101 things that I listed something along the lines of writing letters/cards/emails…and actually sending them? Yeah well, I can't say that I have gotten anywhere near achieving that. Not even one. In fact-I have made a post card, missed out on sending a birthday card, and have got to got to got to scramble up a few quid to send my dear brother a card-which will be late–if it even makes it to the post man…

You'd think that because I am out of work and out of bed that I'd have all day to write you at home, but rather-I busy myself with watching television programs and sleeping in until 2 in the afternoon.

Oh dear me.

A Home Away From Home

When you visit a new country–or even a new state, the atmosphere feels different. It always does, the air seems different-the people are different.  You might miss home, crave for a certain something-or even just the familiarity.

Of all the times that I had come to Ireland-it always felt different. Something more than just the air, the landscape, the accents. It just felt different. Not even a near year of living had changed it… I was always in a foreign country-thinking about all the things at home that I missed. Thinking about all the things that were not here, rather than enjoying all the things that home did not have to offer. All the great differences that make it so interesting…

Until I realised the other night- it feels like home.

Sure, I have no home of my own yet, I haven't fully settled in. But driving along the road into Loughrea felt no different than as if I were driving over to see my Aunt in Yukon. The familiarity is all there-as if I have lived here forever.

It feels so good to have a home away from home. Of course, nothing comes close to the smell of the t-shirt your mother slept in the night before…

Pleasantville

Days are gradually getting longer-the sun hovers in the clouds for a few extra minutes. As for the rain? Well-somebody must be reading, because it stopped. For two days so far! I must have some awesome readers…

So we spent the days prancing about the town, getting our shoes muddy. I love to take notice to the small, colourful, dainty details… Stopping to touch the soft mushy moss-growing on the rocky walls of the town. Taking pictures of snails inching their way along-carrying amazing shells. Honestly….

The town is quiet; fresh bread made daily in the bakery, local butter and milk supplied at the shop. The senior gather at the post office-during the early hours on Friday mornings, to collect their week's allowance.

A safe, quiet, warm community. Friendly faces, dogs without leashes, school kids in uniforms-walking  home at three…

Octopus and Other Eight legged Things

Partly cloudy with a chance of showers. Showers with a chance of rain. Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of sprinkles. Slightly rainy with a chance of rain. The local forecast calls for rain. wind. and rain. Grey skies and fog, followed by more windy, wintry showers. It wouldn't be so bad–if perhaps there was a let up, a part in the clouds, a morning without the drizzle…But after a while, it's hard to find inspiration, let alone-the end of the rainbow.

The wet climbs up the leg of your trousers-wind breaking the only thing protecting your face–the umbrella. A weapon in its own cause-a nasty hazardous octagon with potential of poking the eye out of a passerby. Ducking and dodging these dreadful things, jumping out of the way, crouching down to get past-lucky to make it out without a scratch. As we found a place to take refuge from all of the hustle and bustle of the busy weapon carriers-the sight above gave me a laugh.

The Luck of the Irish has to be the fact that houses aren't flooded after 20 straight days of rain…The Island is a giant green sponge soaking it all in.

It appears that the site is experiencing some difficulties. I apologize for the inconvenience and continue to scratch my head as to why this is happening. Hopefully we will be back up and running soon!

…And Baby Makes Four

Family. The same blood flows through the veins of multiple people-but it isn't the only thing that claims the family relation. The greatest thing about family is that you get to choose who to call your family–and add to the ones you already hold near and dear to your heart.

The family grows-the veins that carry our blood resemble a road map around the globe and separate us-to our own lives. While little girls grow strength in their legs to carry them, and a little boy gets to be a big boy, potty and all-another baby grows and kicks, tumbles and flips… It's the hardest part–to be away.

To my brothers, and sisters, my niece and nephews. The aunt I have claimed and the sisters I have made… I love you, and miss you all.

Three's Company

The kids are desperate to come stay the night at the house-so this weekend is full of the three amigos running about, eating sugar and watching cartoons…begging to play games on Steven's computer.

They are amazing to watch-the personality differences between the ages, and households.

Lorraine (5) is one tough cookie. Aggressive, knows what she wants-and how to get it. Loves money, drawing, and Steven. Doesn't know her own strength-and can sulk for hours, and even days. Sister to Caimin.

Cian (nearly 7) is the comedian. Confident and shy all in the same. Knows how to shake his groove thing, and carry a tune. Likes what he likes and isn't afraid to tell you otherwise. Sings to current songs-and knows the artist. Has the sense of humour of a 15 year old-and can sleep just like one, from staying up late-to sleeping until noon. Brother to Steven.

Caimin (9) is the quiet one. Keeps to himself, but-when he wants to share some of his news/ likes/ interests–is over the moon, and tripping over his words. Has an extensive collection and knowledge of all tractors and farm equipment. Wants to be a farmer when he grows up. Has long legs that seem to carry him without his knowledge.  Brother to Lorraine.

Amazing to watch, know, and talk to–and all the same, exhausting. Never ending energy-teasing and taunting, begging for attention..and always finding ways to out-do the other. Kids will be kids.

Trapped in a box

I've been doing a whole lot of nothing. Sitting around, listening to the wind and the rain pounding at the windows…

I'd love to go out and explore with my camera–even though I've explored this town multiple times with a lens in hand… Waiting for a dry patch in the sky…

Quick Pick

January is most likely the worst month to be unemployed in Ireland. It seems that everyone is losing their job, and at the same time–no one is hiring.

We went job searching today…Left in the resume to a few places-but no one seems to be hiring-or handing out applications. Ah well, when you are working, you can't wait for a break–and when you are unemployed-you can't wait to work.

Hopefully we'll be winning the lotto…

Not to worry-we will be up and on our feet in no time. Job searching is terrible all over the world, and always puts you down and out.. Especially when you step into a puddle with your non-socked feet…just as the rain starts to fall. Chins up, an umbrella needs to be purchased, and lucky numbers chosen!

Error 404

There are faults within every great website-maintenance can be extremely difficult, especially if you are like me–and have no clue how to even build a website… But thanks to my lovely, kind, and patient husband-I believe that the comment problem [that a few of you have voiced to me] has been solved.
