Things I've Learned In My Life So Far

Quite a few of the bloggers I read have jumped on the ‘Bucket List’ idea, and created a list of 100 things they’d love to do before they die…

And while I think that this is a fabulous idea, it sets some goals, dreams, and potentially plans of amazing things that we should fulfill our life, with a glass half full approach-I’m more interested in knowing what you would leave behind.

What life lessons, what wisdom would you bestow? What are some things that you have learned in your life- so far, that you would pass down to your generations.

Handy Dandy (Purple) Notebook

It’s inevitable that sometime during the day I will ask Steven to hand me ‘The Purple Notebook’. I asked for it tonight. Twice. Which I think was the first time he thought to ask what exactly it was about this purple notebook that I needed. What do I do with it? What secrets does it hold? His idea on the purple notebook is that it just may explode if he were to open its contents.

Could it be full of ingredients for potions and spells? –I wish.

I’m a list maker. It’s just my way of relaxing. It’s also the perfect way to stress me out. I know-a tiny bit crazy but I have kinky curls of red growing from my head, and this gives me permission to be crazy.

I like to constantly have a bit of paper and something to write with me at all times. I get ideas in my head that have to be written down NOW! Words that I like, sometimes a phrase that I put together… Something that I have overheard. I get ideas for projects to do-constantly. (Projects that you will probably never see because I never finish them)

Lists upon lists are stored on this computer. Lists upon lists are in this notebook and that, bits of paper shoved in the pocket of my purse will hold words that are mumble jumble to most-but a clear plan to me.

So, the mystery of The Purple Notebook? It's just a desk calendar-with notebook paper that I have so cunningly taped into it and filled with pointless listsandlistsofideasandnamesandmumblejumblehocuspocus.

My Name in Lights

Just think that you should all probably visit here. Of course you will then notice a little name that you would so lovingly recognize as none other than moi, Starving Artist.

It may be a tad bit vain-but there is nothing like seeing your own words and name somewhere else. lalala

Bells will be ringing

I am so excited to announce that I have booked my very first wedding! The bride-to-be is a very down to earth, happy, smiling, gorgeous girl…Who I cannot wait to photograph with her man…

So while she is busy researching wedding dresses and cakes, invitations and flowers-I am busy filling my head with ideas of pictures I can't wait to take!

I have so many things that need to get done, cards to be printed, book examples to be made… la la la

I'm in my element.

Picture Perfect!

I have this dream, a goal…To start my own photography business one day. I feel that plenty of practice and confidence is all I need to get me to the top… I have been working really hard on both of these things, and in time-I think I can be something, someone.

I have a long way to go, cards to be printed, proof books to be made…But until then, this space is my way of launching my dream into a reality.

If you'd take a minute to notice-I have created a new tab, detailing the prices and packages that I am offering. Any words of advice would be welcomed!

Companion

As I drive home in the silent darkness, the road and a few lights as my only companions-I listen with my entire body to a complete instrumental song… It's so beautiful, it moves me, it brings my thoughts to so many places and things… It engulfs me. The persons fingers play with ease and magic across a violin, piano singing smoothly in the background…

I admire people with this much patience, with this much passion for their art. I admire the people who have the drive, who have the goal, who want-and don't give up. They have such discipline…They've worked hard, spent many hours, and make it look like soft clay that anyone can mould.

I have many people like that in my life. People who I look up to, admire… People whose words I read daily, and whose art I get lost in… I think that I finally found where I belong-I think I finally know my path that I want to take. Before, there was such a colourful array of things I wanted to do, or things I thought I'd do. But right now, my entire focus, drive, and passion is on bettering myself as a photographer.   I have a goal. Perhaps one day I will be the person people can admire.

What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail?

I would run my own photography studio…making a living off of my art.

I'd never worry about money.

I'd have many children, and make messes with them.

I'd explore all the places in the world I've always wanted to.

I'd forget what anxiety felt like and really breathe.

I'd stop trying to have some control over things, stop organizing things, and stop thinking that work is everything.

I'd wake up every morning with a positive attitude.

I'd move to a country where English was a foreign language.

I'd build my dream house with my husband.

There are things that I have already done in my life that could be considered a failure… There are times that I go through and make the toughest decisions, that I'm in the tightest spot…Later-I look back at all of the 'mistakes' and realise that this is all apart of my journey. My story. What Steven and I have made for ourselves, and our exploration of this world together… It gets tough, but I do look forward to our future failures-because they end up with the best endings.

Share with me some of your glorious mistakes, and tell me, what would YOU do if you knew that you couldn't fail at it?

Deireadh Fómhair

Welcome October… This is my time of year…. Earth's belly full and round-sweet soil, crisp mornings, fog hanging low.

A time when the first wines of the year have ripened, the end of harvest, sowing of wheat. In some cultures October is the Month of the Gods- when the gods would gather to discuss the worlds affairs-and be inaccessible to all.

To me-this is a month of fullness, of happiness, of celebration. This is a time to run barefoot in the cool dirt, to let creativity run through your veins. To sit on wet grass watching the moon. This is the month of colour, of vibrancy, of life and death.

The moose, bear and beasts' fur thickens. The search for warmth intensifies… Fire burning in the hearth.

Dreams

As a young girl-I dreamed of being a marine biologist, living in a house boat in Washington, studying the whales, sea lions, and seals… Thoughts of a husband never occurred to me. As I got older, art school was my goal. I was going to move to back to Washington, or go to Rhode Island (don't ask why, I've never even been there). I was so dead set on this art school that I signed up to receive newsletters and magazines from them-all of the glossy pictures of brilliant art students with stained clothes and funky hair. I wanted to be a part of them….

Things changed. I met Steven, I dreamed of a wedding, of a family, of my life time of love. Art school on the back burner-it will always be there.

The image of a housewife doesn't bother me. In fact it sounds so appetizing to me. Staying at home with the babies-taking them out in strollers on calm days with camera in hand. Baking homemade goodies with their little hands. We still have our dreams… I still have mine. It has been altered a little since biology, and school-but I think it works out better for all of us.

I'd never give up my passion for art, just incorporate it. My dream is a secret for right now-that only my other half knows….

Share some of your dreams with me… Dreams you had as a young kid, dreams that you achieved, and dreams you let go.
